Afternoon Note

Narrow Range

While it's unusual lately for the market to trade in a narrow range, there is still a lot of tension in the air.

Interestingly, investors are piling into Netflix (NFLX) ahead of earnings. They are betting the business model is tariff–proof and will make this a trillion-dollar company, after posting financial results on Thursday.

For a while, the sea tide was drowning all ships. Now, the market is moving in sync with underlying fundamentals rather than massive fear and occasional relief.

It is interesting to see Consumer Discretionary (XLY) under pressure ahead of a retail sales report that could surprise to the upside.

Of course, when all good news is discounted or ignored, it’s hard to buy in ahead of time.
