Countdown to the Fed Starts

Major indices gain ground as Nasdaq hovers near all-time highs and the Street gears up for the Fed’s final policy decision of the year later in the week.

The Federal Open Market Committee is not the only main event this week, though. We also get the final Consumer Sentiment reading and November’s PCE.

Consumer Discretionary (XLY) is not only leading this afternoon, but also reaching new record highs. Signifcant gains in Amazon (AMZN) and Tesla (TSLA) are helping to offset weakness across half of the sector.

Bitcoin (BTC) also hit an all-time high today. The cryptocurrency surged above $107,000.

In the economic front, Empire Manufacturing index weakened more than expected in December +0.2%; consensus of +10.

On the other hand, the U.S. Composite PMI posted an upbeat update in December. The reading came in at 56.6 up from 54.9 in Agust while business activity rose to its highest level in more than two years.
