Small-Cap Gains Momentum

By Charles Payne, CEO & Principal Analyst

It was a good day for an even better week for stocks, but small-caps stand out big time.

Green was across the screen as all factors edged higher, led by small-cap value.

Small-Cap Opportunities

Small-cap value had a good week but continue underperforming the iShares Russell 2000 ETF (IWM). On the other hand, small-cap growth is on fire and should continue.

These names powering small-cap growth have compelling stories.

S&P 500

Consumer Discretionary (XLY) surged on Friday, followed by Industrials (XLI) and Financials (XLF). These have become the most popular Trump picks among professional investors.

There was significant speculation in Super Micro Computer (SMCI) as well as investors seeking oversold opportunities in Moderna (MRNA) and Estee Lauder (EL).

Today’s Session

Today’s session could be a referendum on President-Elect Trump’s pick for Treasury Secretary. The selection has been applauded on both sides of the political aisle.  His job will oversee the rollout of more significant economic tariffs, maintaining the dollar's dominance but ensuring it's not so strong to counteract tariffs and global trading opportunities.

Scott Bessent will also ensure taxpayer funds are treated with care, so look for fewer short-term bond auctions designed to hold down bond yields even though this will cost Americans significantly.

On that note, the street is watching bond yields closely, hoping the rough patch is over.

Historically, the Santa Claus Rally begins tomorrow, but it feels like this year’s version started on November 6th.

Make sure you are participating with adjustments but not throwing caution or rules to the wind.
