Americans elected a builder to fix the nation, and like any good builder, President Trump is beginning by removing the parts of our system that are structurally unsound. Any effort to improve the nation and enhance the foundation established by the framers of the Constitution would automatically fail if it were added to new norms and establishments that have drifted too far from the ethos of the United States. Voting for change and enduring adjustments from the status quo is easier said than done, especially for a society that has it so much easier than previous generations, who can order food and watch the latest movie while lying in bed. Soon, a robot dog will bring the meal inside once it arrives. I keep hearing about short-term pain as being a burden when it should be viewed enthusiastically as part of a process for a brighter future. Trade Deficit There was a time when Warren Buffett thought the trade deficit was selling the nation out from under us. A Little Backbone Trump Drops the Hammer We all underestimated the measures President Trump would take to achieve his lifelong goal: to get a fair deal for America with the rest of the world. There has been considerable handwringing about the methodology of Trump’s reciprocal tariffs. Still, I think the main takeaway is the de facto blockade of China, which has used neighboring countries to circumvent levies imposed by Trump's tariffs.
