The last two rocky sessions of the week overshadowed the fact that back-to-back records were closed last week. It was a bifurcated week with significant gains for specific sectors and even bigger declines for others. My main concern continues to be the consumer. I have said for months that the U.S. consumer is tapped out, but that doesn’t mean they automatically stop consuming. Living paycheck to paycheck and still finding ways to buy nice things or even take a trip somewhere occasionally is an American skill set. Consumers buying what they can't afford is a function of debt accumulation and an intense desire to keep up with the latest that some think is a birthright.
