Afternoon Note

Anti-Climactic Day

By Charles Payne, CEO & Principal Analyst

It’s turning out to be an anti-climactic day. It is not bad, considering the headlines at the start of trading. Of course, the bulls rallied around and messaged to infer that initial jobless claim was noise because of Hurricane Helene. There probably is some merit to it, it’s hard to know to what extent it impacted the numbers.

While it was horrifying, Hurricane Milton didn’t live up to the worst potential. Our prayers go out to those suffering in the aftermath.

Meanwhile, Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee went on television to say all is well.

Energy (XLE) is getting a boost mostly from damage to refineries.

The close is going to be very interesting. It’s clear the market is at a standstill and is looking for a catalyst. I’m not sure what that might be, although earnings season begins tomorrow.

Make sure to watch my special on Fox Business at 2PM. It’s going to be a dynamite show.
