Ain't no love in the heart of town
Ain't no love and it's sure nuff a pity
Ain't no love cause you ain't around
-Bobby ‘Blue’ Bland
As Baltimore goes up in flames, I see an amazing juxtaposition with the earnings results from Apple last night. The biggest business in the history of mankind posted results for the last three months unmatched by any other, save their own success during Christmas time. Steve Jobs was driven in part because he was abandoned as a child. Like many adopted children, his rejection sparked an internal rage that was funneled into an unstoppable competitive fire.
Many of the young people burning, looting and destroying the city of Baltimore are consumed with internal rage. Sadly, they’re told by so many either directly or indirectly they can only funnel their anger through riots and destruction. Even the mayor of Baltimore mentioned she allowed destruction of some properties for those that wished to engage in such behavior. But, this is the combination of victimization combined with poverty, and being told there is no way out.
This is where the disappointment with President Obama rings loud and clear.
Incident after incident, his reaction has been tempered with a tacit wink and nod that there’s an element of justification and the larger issues are actions of police or others. Without a doubt, police brutally and misconduct is reprehensible, but these are individual incidents among thousands of daily actions that keep most cities safe for all inhabitants. There is no justification for burning and looting and general destruction. Right is right, and wrong is wrong- that’s how we begin this conversation and how authorities from the White House laid down a foundation.
Then we sell the American Dream which is within reach of everyone in America. But it can only be reached through self-accountability. America isn’t a nation of victims; it’s a nation of opportunity, although the more that people are snared into the belief it’s hopeless, the fewer opportunities materialize. I know from time to time many people feel there ‘ain’t no love in the heart of the city and ain’t no love in the heart of town.’ But when you love yourself and your neighbors, anything is possible.
Even a chip on your shoulder can become the impetus that propels you out of misery into a place where you can turn around and help others.
Apple & Everyone Else
Check out these numbers and points from Apple’s quarter which actually drew scrutiny or dumb responses from experts on television, like the news is built into share price or is this a chart top. So much of this nonsense has resulted in Apple being the most undervalued stock in the market.
The company will return $200 billion to shareholders, says demand for watch is “overwhelmingly positive” and there’s pricing power.
Earnings beyond Apple have been mixed at best.

Trying to glean the state of the economy from what we’ve seen from earnings thus far is difficult. The winners continue to win, but largely it’s about those companies in industries that outperform, not about the industry themselves.

He should make a public announcement that he is directing all National Guard commanders to shoot on sight any and all looters and anyone destroying property. Larry Field on 4/28/2015 9:48:17 AM |
He should denounce this behavior tell the people we are a nation of laws bring in federal troops if the local state and city governments are unable to address the mayhem business and communities are being destroyed... Jack on 4/28/2015 9:55:29 AM |
ENFORCE THE LAW .....protect lives and personal property ! If our elected leaders Can't do this. Impeach them and hold them accountable ! larry adams on 4/28/2015 9:56:09 AM |
Wonderful article today that speaks to the best lies within us. Its called character. Janis Fulton on 4/28/2015 9:59:31 AM |
Charles- Obama and his appointees have fanned the flames of racial prejudice since he came into office. Making excuses for bad behavior does not work. Everyone should be held accountable for their actions and/or inactions.....and that means everyone (police, rioters, instigators, etc.) It is the lack of accountability that has led us to this current situation. Young black kids would not be rioting if they thought there would be consequences for doing so. Sadly, in this age of complacency, excuses and dependency..... and fear of being labeled a racist for "telling it like it really is" this mess will get worse before it gets any better. Bill Bahlburg on 4/28/2015 10:07:58 AM |
If this President speaks from his heart, he will only fan the flames. I believe he holds the same attitude as the looters. In an alternate universe where he is not President, he is a looter. He has proven with past situations that he can't do anything to calm the people. So, anything he says will sound insincere and be taken that way. I'm at a loss for how he can help. Scott Heck on 4/28/2015 10:08:56 AM |
it appears that opportunity is declining, and the victimization mentality is increasing. tough to be optimistic these days. jim c on 4/28/2015 10:12:16 AM |
Lawless government = lawless poor. Government steals, so why not just act like government... steal it. Government spends TRILLION$... So, WHERE DID THE MONEY GO? Poor folks really just want opportunity, education, and jobs. Tax $'s don't really reach and help the poor. Jobs are going to illegals... It's not rocket science. Barry Gold on 4/28/2015 10:16:32 AM |
The problem that is plaguing areas in this country cannot be solved by throwing money at the problem thru governmental assistance. What has created the problem but, needs to be approached is to change the mind set of younger people that have for generations been left to consider local, State and Federal agencies as a way of life financially, curtailing the need to achieve thru hard work. We need to provide positive role models of achievement in local communities which will introduce avenues to achieve thru education. Just one mans thoughts. Michael O'Derrick on 4/28/2015 10:19:35 AM |
I'm really concerned. This administration has fostered and emboldened a race war. I was always standing up for the plight of our inner city youth. Telling everyone that these acts of senseless violence were the acts of a few disenchanted souls. Now it's as though the administration is encouraging this in order to create conflict. Rational thought seems to be thrown-out the door as unfortunate situations get are carted out as examples of racial prodigious. It appears as though the black community is preparing for a race based war so they have something to blame other than looking in the mirror. john on 4/28/2015 10:20:54 AM |

Announce that anyone arrested for looting or rioting will have all of their public assistance stopped. No more welfare, food stamps or free healthcare. Sy Globerman on 4/28/2015 10:28:56 AM |
The best thing the president can do to help with Baltimore is to go golfing.... Take Holder with him....... Preferably in Hawaii.... tom wayne on 4/28/2015 10:29:41 AM |
It's foolish to expect much real leadership from the President in this situation. The current divisions in the black community only serve to advance the left's future political success. Black conservatives like CV Payne, Star Parker, Ben Carson and the growing number of enlightened black pastors need to lead by speaking out, objectifying the real nature of the problem, and developing a positive social, economic and, yes, religious program of renewal in the black community. Only the left benefits from continued rioting, looting, and division. The new generation of black leaders have to take charge, or we're headed for chaos in our large cities. Dennis Howard on 4/28/2015 10:39:33 AM |
Our President has had chance after chance to stand up and tell these young people that looting and rioting are not the way to get ahead. Only silence from him. One gets ahead by hard work and determination! Get off welfare and work to better your own future;of course his economic policies have not helped either! These people have not helped their cause; as I have no sympathy for their bad behavior! Harriet Aristeguieta on 4/28/2015 10:51:31 AM |
A nation that voted for a lawless president wonders why there is lawlessness in the streets. Clark M on 4/28/2015 11:03:58 AM |
Charles- The disappointment with President Obama is summed up well in a quote by Fred Smith, Sr. (1917-2007). "To place an individual in a position outside his gift for political purposes is leadership prostitution." We, as a country, have done that with our current President and are reaping the consequences of that decision. Bo Winston on 4/28/2015 11:06:25 AM |
I don't think he's equipped to say anything helpful about that. Patricia Flynn on 4/28/2015 11:15:13 AM |
While not looking forward to it, I am so curious as to what this nation will be like in around 20-30 years, after the entitlements for the LCD's have run dry, and those of productive people begin to shrivel as well (social sec, etc). Looting now??? Have a feel we ain't seen nothin' yet. David on 4/28/2015 11:22:50 AM |
He ought to tell everyone to go home. Concerned on 4/28/2015 11:23:46 AM |
if he were a president of all the people, he could use his bully pulpit to restore sensibility and responsibility as indidvidual values. But, since he has spent 6 years doing th opposite, that is unlikely. As much as anything else, he is the cause , not the solution. The only way to use that bully pulpit now would be for him to give a proper apology to the people for his past words via a repentent speech accentuated by resignation. He has led this country to a bad place. He has destroyed the rule of law and the sense of individual responsibility in the young black communities. That can only be restored by a slow process of enforcing the rule of law with an even hand. Sure, bringing in riot troops with live ammo would end the surface problem, but it would push it underground into terrorism. More black panthers is not what we need. We need firm prosecution of rioters with recompense forced to the victims, not the state. Get cameras out as soon as the trouble starts. Document the perpetrators. Then establish chain gangs (maybe without the chains) that are forced to labor during jail sentences rebuilding what they destroyed. Put large resources into digging out the instigators and running huge public campaigns to destroy them so there is no more profit in it. Reveal them as the true slum lords they are, using the hatred for their own benefit. Whatever actions are taken must be within the reasoned rule of law in order to reestablish the rule of law. It cannot be through martial law or police action or it will only fan the flames. It must be through the courts and through public, fair trials with juries from the communities destroyed. Bob G on 4/28/2015 11:27:39 AM |
Sad day in America when our officials who took an oath to defend law abiding citizens instead encourage rioting. They should be kicked out of office. However the fish stinks from the head down Obama. charles on 4/28/2015 11:50:27 AM |
Treat everyone, every place and every situation equal. Why create more inequality with your in-actions and inability to take an honest stand against violence. You are too thin skinned and self absorbed to lead with greatness. Grow up. Mary DAcierno on 4/28/2015 12:04:55 PM |
While the president should speak up and stop HIS race baiting, the real problem begins at everyone's home. Many of you probably saw the clip of the mom hitting her son and taking him off the street. While I generally do not condone such things it was right for that instance. That is what every mother and father need to do. I know, it sounds pollyannish, but that's the only way things will change. The community leaders need to not only condemn these actions but stop blaming someone else, society, government, business, etc for their ilk. THE only way these things will stop is when everyone takes personal responsibility for everything that happens or does not happen to and for them. There truly is no government mandate that can solve this problem. Brent Calver on 4/28/2015 12:07:59 PM |
I disagree with "Many of the young people burning, looting and destroying the city of Baltimore are consumed with internal rage." They are having fun, they're actions justified by the liberal media who continues to over report every single racial crime to get ratings. Its always about the money, just follow it. America is becoming a giant reality TV show, that's what people want to see, that's what gets ratings, its a sad state of affairs. I'm embarrassed by the lack of leadership. I'm embarrassed to be an American of late. Mike W on 4/28/2015 12:21:28 PM |
He jumps on the anti police band wagon when thet do wrong or are perceived to do wrong must also reverse course and do the same for blatant law breaking and rioting . These people were not mourning for the Grey Boy. This is rioting. This is the same thing he let happen and encouraged in Ferguson. He must stand up to crime where ever it stems from. Jim Cuff on 4/28/2015 1:47:42 PM |
I think this is by the anti right leading up to the w.h. declaring martial law before the election in nov. Rusty. on 4/28/2015 3:17:09 PM |
I cried this morning for my beloved country. Another city on fire. I cannot understand how anyone or group could bring such grief and allow such destruction within their own community. Kudos to the mom who went after her son and did what all mothers AND FATHER should be doing. On top of that a PRESIDENT could care less probably because he couldn't sign an EXEC ORDER to stop it. God help all of us. Marie C on 4/28/2015 4:21:59 PM |
It will take years to undue all the corruption in government 0 has instigated. E.V. Wagoner on 4/28/2015 5:47:07 PM |
After 6 years it's obvious Mr. Obama is not interested in protecting property or advancing the American Dream. I would like to see some leadership and character out of this administration. Cities and states have the responsibility of dealing with these situations and it's not the job of the Federal Gov't to get involved. Anything out of the White House will only make matters worse. Craig on 4/28/2015 5:54:04 PM |
iT IS THE PRESIDENTS PLAN TO DECLARE MARTIAL LAW, THEN HE WILL BE LIKE PUTIN, a Dictator, and he dreamed of this position, take away the guns and send good amricans to camps, they are already set up. 'homeland security' is already ready, i have seen pictures of all the camps. Just get ready America it iS coming--soon. We will soon have beheadings here in America joe cayman on 4/29/2015 12:32:20 AM |
Once again, our President sits back and watches these riots on TV! Shocking and shameful! Other cities see nothing happening to these criminals, so y not do it again and somewhere else! Free stuff! Rita Smith on 4/29/2015 11:38:58 AM |
