Time to Strike Back

By Charles Payne, CEO & Principal Analyst

It hasn’t been uncommon for our stock market to hold or even rally in the hours immediately following a terror attack.  The ability to wave-off or not allow perpetrators to win has been admirable.  What happened in Paris on Friday has taken terror to another level, and we must make everyone acknowledge that it is war; in fact, this is WWIII - at the moment, the west isn’t winning.

Our prayers go out to the people of Paris.  There isn’t a person in America who does not think what happened there is out of the realm of possibility in most major U.S. cities.

The inhumanity of attacks and broad targeting means that at any time or place, people of any nationality or religion that congregate can be targets.  Soft targets could now be the scope of Kalashnikov rifles.  (This has already been the case for many Middle-Eastern and African targets.)  The good news is that Americans went outside, saw sporting events, hit the malls, and crammed themselves into airplanes over the weekend.

I know, because I did all of the above with my wife and son in the nation’s capital.  We watched the Redskins rock the Saints after Lee Greenwood sang a moving rendition of “Proud To Be An American.” Yes, we don’t cower.  On the contrary, many are hopeful this knocks President Obama out of his unrealistic dream world where savages are only that way from a lack of jobs and global warming-that must happen for the world to be safe.

We applaud France’s swift attacks in retaliation, but America needs to put marshal forces and resolve.  Until then, we’ll keep up the brave face and we won’t allow terror to change the course of our daily lives; however, the possibility of Paris happening in American cities will no longer reside in the recesses of our minds.

I am not sure to what extent it impacts the economy or stock market; it had serious issues before ISIS unleashed hell.

Market

Last night, Japan officially slipped into a recession that must have sent shivers up the collective spines of the members of the Federal Reserve.  Despite two lost decades and even more money printing, the world’s third largest economy is slowly circling the drain.  The timing couldn’t be worse for the market, which saw the Dow close under its 200 and 50-day moving average on Friday.

There’s symbolic support around 17,000; it gets murky below that point.

Today’s Session

Once again a department store implodes as Dillard’s (DDS) has laid an egg this morning with financial results that disappointed big time.  The market is listing into the opening bell.  On one hand, stocks seem vulnerable from a confluence of events, but on the other hand, early resolve could signal something deeper than defiance against savages.

There are going to be knee-jerk reactions

Stronger

Weaker

The Euro was created to facilitate free trade among European nations in an effort to compete with America, China and Asian Tiger nations.  It called for the removal of boarders including psychical boarders.   The Euro won’t be abandoned, but it isn’t the cure-all hoped for on the continent, and there must be travel restrictions and border controls to ensure the safety of citizens.

there are 50-60 thousand isis fighters.
I don't see any reason the west can't
demolish them.

I hope you're happy w/ War contractors profitting from endless war. All you're doing is proving the Thrasymachus argument in Plato's REPUBLIC you moron. Thank you.

1. STOP refugee flow
2. LEAD on the world stage vs follow
3. Vote out Obama/Clinton crowd along with Mayor DeBlasio (NYC Mayor) - Reinstate STOP & FRISK
4. Reinvigorate our Intelligence efforts
5. Call Radical Islamists what they are. Stop P.C.

tom k on 11/16/2015 10:00:02 AM
Love Ben Carson's principles; however I don't view him as a fighter. I sense he will want an intellectual debate with the opposition and try to persuade them to not attack us. I believe we need a fighter in the White House. If we are not secure we won't have an economy.

Phillip on 11/16/2015 10:21:11 AM
I have a feeling Europe is doomed with her open borders.. as for a response , use WW2 as the example Full scale invasion and bombing.. although USA does not have leadership, it is my belief that the new generation will recover the freedoms being taken away, Radical Islam has no place on earth..as those HATE , themselves, their women, their children, Hate is their goal.. imo

JJA on 11/16/2015 10:24:34 AM
Well apparently the Paris terrorist attack was not a black swan event. ISIS will not be destroyed until a coalition of nations is formed and massive ground troops committed to defeat ISIS. In the meantime expect more terrorist attacks. Air attacks alone will not destroy ISIS except by carpet bombing which will kill or maim many thousands of innocent people.

Rodman Johnson on 11/16/2015 10:33:33 AM
Despite the Charlie Hebdo attack in January, there was a complete failure of French intelligence before this latest event thanks to the softheaded left who can't say "islamic terrorism." Fortunately, the French seem to be taking this seriously at last. We need to wake up too. This could easily have happened here. In addition, we need to:
1. Use armed security at every vulnerable venue. 2. Get serious about wiping out Isis in Syria and elsewhere. 3. Get rid of the softheaded liberals in public office, 4. Do everything we can to wake up our fellow Americans who think it can't happen here. And 5. Recognize that we are doing even greater harm to our children's future by putting up with policies that have already taken the lives of 59 million unborn Americans. That's 19,000 thousand times more Americans than were killed on 9/11. Lets keep our priorities straight.

Dennis Howard on 11/16/2015 10:42:26 AM
The U.S. will get hit right after Obama leaves the office. We need to work with other Moslem Countries that are being targeted by ISIS.

I notice the comment above about war profiteering companies. Absurd!! Any reader of this web site knows We are the owners of the companies in America. In dealing with American companies THERE IS NO THEY, there is only we.

George C, Hawkins III on 11/16/2015 11:14:38 AM
Forget it about our president being shaken out of his fantasy. He had doubled down on his kindergarten naivety about "not being at war with Islam." Until moderate states in the Muslim sphere see real downsides to dragging their feet on the islamic terror question there will be no hope of controlling let alone eliminating it.

scott Manhart on 11/16/2015 11:27:33 AM
POTUS is incompetent and unfit to hold office. THAT in an indisputable fact.

Short of his resignation, and based on POTUS' feckless continuation of a feckless foreign policy -- he announced today at Presser that, in effect, he sees no reason to change his strategy -- it is now time to look at Amendment 25, Section action by VPOTUS and majority of Cabinet to declare POTUS incompetent / "unable to discharge powers and duties" of his office.

Otherwise, I see a rising of the American people against its government, the likes of which not seen since the First American Revolution.

"Cry 'havoc' and let slip the dogs of war!" Our military is ready to go and do the job for which they have trained. Nothing less that that will protect the world... and our homeland.

Wes on 11/16/2015 11:33:08 AM
First of all, people have to realize, that terror comes from very essence of Islam (Quran reading highly recommended: we must know our enemy). In order to stop terror, we need to stop buying oil from Muslim countries: all terrorist acts are financed by money, they rob you each time you filled your tank. And finally, We should be very tough with them. The country from territory of which a terrorist act had been initiated shall be held accountable for it!

Vladimir Levitin on 11/16/2015 11:33:11 AM
Obama's #1 SWORN promise to is to protect America citizens...HE is NOT!!
How is he going to vet and investigate the upcoming influx of refugees into Amercia...there are no records!

I support the action and courage of the French. I think we need to consider IMPEACHMENT of this President for Gross Incompetence! His actions seem to be Anti-American.

FMT on 11/16/2015 11:44:33 AM
the vacuum created by Obama policy in Iraq and policy to displace in Syria is the basis for the situation where they have territory to bring in recruits who are ONLY ISLAMIC. Does Obama believe they are recruiting Christian terrorists? Buddists? Jews? NO only those that believe in a perverted view of Islam but one that is NOT being REJECTED by the billions of Muslims who claim not to be part of the problem but they are. In the same way the Germans went along (out of fear and ignorance) with Hitler that produced tens of millions of deaths, Muslims worldwide had better wake up and reject this view or they will be held accountable in history and by the modern world as responsible by in-action.

Ralph Peters and Mark Steyn were really excellent in their interview comments on Fox Business this morning and in previous broadcasts.

Support these commentators by buying their books.

Al M. on 11/16/2015 12:16:48 PM
What to do with ISIS? You go back to the generals who have a real plan to defeat and rid the world of ISIS, and you give them full authority (no rules of engagement, hand tieing stupidity) to WIN! Lead those countries who are reluctant to commit and waiting for US leadership.
And, you work to hack and destroy ISIS ' social media network.
These are Islamic terrorist killers, who must be killed, all of them.
Also, buy Raytheon, they make almost every weapon that every country is going to use to destroy ISIS, and they , Raytheon, are going to be real busy!

Don and Patti Woolley on 11/16/2015 12:17:55 PM
On Varney ioday:

Apparently it was common knowledge AND there were useful targets ... training camps, oil truck convoys, victory parades, etc, well know a YEAR AGO ... and we did NOTHING.

One of the leaders of the Paris attacks was picked up while crossing the Mediterranean as a "refugee".

None of this is new.

None of this is a surprise.

But the USA and France and the others have done nothing but make excuses for these terrorists.

Mark Steyn ... great web site ... was being interviewed and is shocked that we are shocked.

He has been writing about this for ten years.

Ralph Peters has been recommending harsh measures for as long as he has been on television.

After World War Two, the US stayed in Germany and Japan. After Korea, we stayed in Korea. NO problems. But we pulled out of Iraq and Afghanistan immediately ... major problems.

al M. on 11/16/2015 12:22:50 PM
If one takes a CLOSE look at terrorism and the fact ISIS has been GROWING in strength/numbers in Syria and Iraq, one can distill the reason (OR reasons) BEHIND the growth of radical Islam: FEAR and with the attacks in Paris this past Friday, terrorism has INCREASED its FEAR QUOTIENT by a LARGE MAGNITUDE! Wake up America AND Obama...FEAR is stronger than most OTHER emotions and will CONTROL the continued growth of ISIS unless we SNUFF IT (ISIS) OUT! Until we take DEFINITIVE ACTION (not this mamby pamby stance we currently foster in the ME), the FEAR of "not belonging" to "the winning side" will control and dictate the CONTINUED GROWTH of ISIS and additional worldwide terrorism.

James Allan on 11/16/2015 12:34:02 PM
If the USA won't lead then it is time to remove those that won't (and it includes a lot more than just Obama) and get someone in the White House that understands the extent of this threat and will deal decisively and ruthlessly with an enemy that is growing larger with every passing day.
1.) no refugees
2.) coalition with Russia, UK, France, Germany, Belgium, Spain and any of our Arab allies to develop and execute an attack plan against these radical groups
4.) Repair the damage done to our military strength after 8 years of Democrat control
5.) Stop the cash flow to the terrorist groups - shut down the bank avenues and bomb the heck out of the oil fields.
6.) Shut down their social media links
7.) Clean out the cells in this country - suspected or proven
8.) Put all Americans on notice to watch what's going on around them because this kind of behavior will not stop if left unchecked. Obama's strategy is pathetic and will only encourage more attacks on us.
9.) Pray - hard.

Connie H on 11/16/2015 1:02:02 PM
We should what France is doing. Invoke Article 5 NATO. Then declare war on ISIS. Put Combat Brigades in Iraq. But, this President won't.

Bob Medkeff on 11/16/2015 1:43:54 PM
Wow! I've never seen so many comments on one of your articles as this one. People are really concerned about the Paris attacks, which is perfectly understandable. One thing I thought I would add here is that it seems Obama and many Democrats are uncomfortable with the term "radical Islamists" because they fear we will insult all Muslims with this term. I'm not nearly so sensitive, but if Democrats prefer using the term "radical jihadists" instead that would be OK with me. (I think Hillary said she likes this term better in the Saturday night "debate". Everyone knows that jihadists are Muslim anyway, so i don't really see that it makes all that much difference which term we use.) Still if Democrats like that term, I say let's all use it so maybe we can all get on the same team for once instead of pointing our "political correctness" fingers at each other. We've got a common enemy and we need to start acting like it.

George E. on 11/16/2015 1:59:12 PM

Bring in the Machiavellian military strategy. It's like a lesson from my childhood: When packs of wild dogs ran through our tiny Mesabi Range neighborhood during the harshest winters, we would not welcome them into our homes or give them shelter. The neighborhood fathers would all grab their rifles and run the threat down, making sure their families remained safe.

find obomna incopanate and force him out of office. declare war. send our troops over there and kill ever terrist over there. Louis eicher

louis eicher on 11/17/2015 9:34:36 AM
Invoke NATO Article 5, establish an invasion force including US, France Turkey, Great Britain, negotiate with Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan to participate. With US and others providing air power and cruise missel support, invade Northern Syria and take over ISIS "capitol". cut off all supply lines and ability to sell oil, cut off all ability to conduct financial transactions. Kill and destroy. Leave Arab nations to occupy. Repeat wherever they pop up again.

chris on 11/17/2015 12:06:52 PM
Charles, I think the United States of America should launch an ICBM Nuclear tipped and flatten ISIS.

John Wiley Jr. on 11/17/2015 4:17:01 PM
We must heed the advice of our best military minds and seek counsel from Israel, the NYPD, and others to tighten our security.

Frank Dicostanzo on 11/19/2015 4:27:51 PM
Directly support a Kurdish homeland bypassing both Iraq and turkey. And support Assad. If history has told us anything it's that Arab countryies need an authoritarian government to keep fundamentalists in check.

IMPEACHMENT!!!

In my opinion..

THE CAUSE IS MARIJUANA.

I BELIEVE THERE IS A DIRECT CORRELATION BETWEEN THE PSYCHOTIC ACTIONS OF THE MURDERS AND MARIJUANA.

I BET THAT IF YOU INVESTIGATE IT YOU WILL FIND THAT MOST/ALL THE MURDERS ARE MARIJUANA USERS.

I BELIEVE MARIJUANA USE CAUSES DISTORTED, PARANOID TOUGHTS AND BELIEFS THAT SEEM INCONTROVERTIBLE TO THE USER EVEN LONG AFTER USE.

I BELIEVE MARIJUANA USE CAUSES THE FOLLOWERS OF ISLAM TO BELIEVE AND TAKE LITERALLY MURDEROUS PASSAGES WITHIN THEIR RELIGION.

PLEASE INVESTIGATE THE LINK BETWEEN MARIJUANA USE AND THESE MURDERS.
